JAMMU, Apr 19: In view of the extended lockdown to combat COVID-19, the J&K Board of School Education has decided to go ahead for evaluation of the answer scripts of Class 10th and 12th (Summer Zone) candidates even as examinations of a few subjects are still pending, on which the appropriate decision shall be taken later on.
Official sources told the Excelsior that the J&K BOSE has decided to carry out home delivery evaluation of the answer scripts of both Class 10th and 12th candidates as table marking was not possible in view of the lockdown restrictions.
With regard to practical examinations of Class 10th, which were yet to be conducted when the lockdown was enforced, sources said that proportionate marks on the basis of marks obtained in theory subjects in Science shall be awarded.
Further, sources added, appropriate decision with regard to conduct of examinations for the remaining three subjects in different streams of Class 12th shall be taken once the evaluation of subjects in which examinations have already been conducted, is conducted.
Decisions in this regard were taken after a meeting of top officers of the JK BOSE for discussion on declaration of results of 10th and 12th classes (Annual Regular-2020, Summer Zone Jammu), issuance of marks cards in respect of candidates of Class 11th, who have been granted mass promotion and other issues.
Pertinent to mention here that in wake of the lockdown, the School Education Department on April 7 had ordered mass promotion of all students up to Class 9th and those appearing in Class 11th examinations in Summer Zone of Jammu Division and private students in Kashmir Division as well as in Winter Zone of Jammu Division thus making around six lakh students eligible for admission in the next higher grade without qualifying the examinations.
However, decision on the candidates who have appeared in Class 10th and 12th (Summer Zone in Jammu Division) was deferred subject to the situation emerging after April 14 when the 21-day period of lockdown-I was ending.
It may also be recalled that theory examinations of Class 10th had completed but External Practical exams of these students were still pending while two regular and one optional papers of Class 12th were yet to be conducted when the lockdown-1 was imposed.
Taking note of the situation following extended lockdown upto May 3 and uncertainty over the condition thereafter, the J&K Board of School Education has finally decided to go ahead with home delivery evaluation of the answer scripts of both the classes.
“Taking into consideration that around 50 percent evaluation has already been completed in respect of 10th standard and about 30 percent in respect of 12th standard, it was resolved that without wasting further time, home delivery evaluation in respect of both the classes be carried out as an exception without forming any precedence for future,” sources explained and added that Joint Secretary and Secretary Jammu Division shall workout all the modalities in this regard and carry on the process expeditiously.
More than 54 thousand candidates have appeared in Class 10th and 34 thousand in Class 12th examinations, (Annual Regular, Summer Zone) and thus around five lakh answer scripts are required to be evaluated by the BOSE for declaring their results.
“Because of the prevailing situation and such a large number of answer scripts, it is not possible to get the task completed even in a month and thus results of both the classes are unlikely to be declared before June,” said a senior officer of the JKBOSE, on the condition of anonymity.
In view of the mass promotion to Class 11th students, sources further informed that the BOSE has resolved that format of Marks card for these candidates shall be revised and issued after deleting the columns depicting ‘Marks Obtained’, ‘Minimum Mark’ and ‘Grand Total’ etc. Instead of these columns, the result shall be shown as ‘Promoted by virtue of mass promotion in view of COVID-19 Pandemic’, sources said.
