This has reference to the article ‘Reasi a tourist destination’ DE May 11.
Jammu region has tremendous border tourist potential as numerous scenic spots dot the Jammu landscape. But, one wonders why this potential has remained untapped so far ? The Government had assured people that arrangement would be made in terms of infrastructure-roads, hotels, restaurants and communication network in these areas but no concrete step has been taken so far.
These border areas remain hidden from tourists as no publicity through print or electronic media is given to them. That is why these regions have not emerged as tourist spots on the map of the State.
The religious places located in these areas attract local devotees only. The presence of pilgrims from other States almost remains nil. The reason being the same as mentioned above.
Unless, the Government frames a comprehensive tourism policy to bring these places under its ambit and allocates sufficient money, border tourism would remain in limbo.
