KATHUA, Dec 3: The border residents and small farmers drawn from various villages took out a protest March at Kathua, Nagari and Hiranagar today. They also submitted a memorandum of demands addressed to PM Narendra Modi and LG of J&K to authorities.
They criticized the Government for its failure to protect the livelihood of poor people who are cultivating the State land since decades. The Kissan leader Shiv Dev Singh said that poor people and poor farmers have no other sources of income except cultivation of State land. He said the poor people are being harassed by administration and are issued notices to vacate the State land which is unacceptable.
They said in some places, Revenue Department has pasted the notice on Notice Boards.  Under such circumstances hundreds of the poor people will become homeless and landless. The border area farmers are also worried for the same and hence they sat on protest dharna at tehsil office  Hiranagar. They raised the slogans in favour of their demands.
The Kissan leader Bansi Lal  warned the Government to stop the exercise regarding vacation of State land and don’t harass the poor people  otherwise mass scale agitation on the pattern Punjab Kissan agitation would be launched and Government would be responsible for all the consequences.
