BOPEE scam accused sent to jail

SRINAGAR, Nov 28: A local Court in Srinagar sent one of the accused in Common Entrance Test- 2012 scam to 15 days judicial remand even as he had applied for bail last week.
The Crime Branch produced Sajjad Ahmad, one of the accused in CET-2012 scam before Sub-Registrar, Manzoor Ahmad, who sent him to 15 days judicial remand.
Sajjad is one of the accused in the scam in which former chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Exams (JKBOPEE), Mushtaq Ahmad Peer, is the main accused.
Sajjad Ahmad, had moved a bail application before the Court and Crime Branch was asked to file objections.
The Crime Branch in its objections to Sajjad’s bail application before the Court said that scandal in which Sajjad is involved is a mega one and the general public and students have lost faith on BOPEE and prayed before the Court that the bail may be rejected.
The Crime Branch objections to the bail plea of Sajjad said that he along with other accused including Peer and Farooq Itoo are involved in the leaking of the question papers of CET-2012, thus, marring the carrier of merit holding candidates.
Crime Branch in its objections while pleading for rejection of bail told the Court that Sajjad has received Physics, Chemistry and Biology question papers of CET-2012 from one Farooq Ahmad Itoo at Nishat and distributed it to candidates by charging lakhs of rupees from them through one Haroon Rashid.
Crime Branch while pleading for rejection of bail before the Court said that more disclosures are awaited from Sajjad that could lead to recovery of money and identification of more beneficiaries of the scam.
It may be mentioned here that former BOPEE chairman Peer, who was arrested last week after Crime Branch questioned him for four days and found him the accused kingpin of the scam, also applied for bail yesterday. The court has asked the Crime Branch to file objections on the next date of hearing before the fate of Peer’s bail application is decided.
