While addressing a press conference, along with some of the aspirants, he explained that BOPEE was inviting application for Paramedical / Nursing Diploma & degree courses in the month of March every year and hence the selection process is supposed to be completed by the month of June as is being done in other States.
However, he added, because of the non serious approach of the BOPEE officials towards career of the aspirants, counseling process is conducted either in the month of November or December with the result the students are compelled either to waste their one precious year or to opt professional courses out of J&K, especially in Punjab which is resulting into huge loss of more than Rs 45 crores annually to the JKUT turnover.
” This set of admission procedure adopted by BOPEE not only effects the students alone, at least 150 colleges of JKUT are also the worst sufferer as they have not been able to get any enrolment in their colleges during the lost two academic sessions and almost all the private institution of JKUT are near to closure because of the financial crises suffered by them during the last two years,” said Balvinder Singh, adding that even in Government Paramedical & Nursing Colleges, more than 50 percent of the seats remained vacant during the last two academics year, which definitely effects the medical services in the coming days in JKUT.
The RTI activists opined that because of the defective admission process adopted by BOPEE, the qualified youth of JK are compelled to move out of the UT for admission in different Paramedics & Nursing courses which clearly indicates the nexus between the private universities of Punjab and some official of BOPEE.
Singh further stated that to save the future of the students of JK UT, the private institutions should be permitted to fill the vacant seats after completion of counseling by BOPEE, as has been done in the adjoining States like Punjab, Haryana & Himachal.
