SRINAGAR, Feb 21: Police today arrested a bootlegger in Sopore and recovered illicit liquor from his possession, besides booking a drug peddler from Ganderbal under Public Safety Act (PSA).
In Sopore, the police established a checkpoint at Dangiwacha and intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK05D-0236 driven by Tariq Ahmad Khan son of Hussain Khan of Rampur Uri.
“During the search, illicit liquor was recovered from the possession of the driver. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Dangiwacha. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized,” police said.
Accordingly, a case FIR number 28/2021 under relevant Sections of law was registered in Police Station Dangiwacha and further investigation is in progress.
Earlier, in Ganderbal, a huge cache of contraband substances were recovered from a drug peddler identified as Shamaas Din Lone alias Shaba son of Mehraj- ud- Din Lone, resident of Duderhama, Ganderbal and cases vide FIR Numbers 99/2013, 202/2013 and 126/2018 stands registered against him at Police Station Ganderbal.
Accordingly, the investigation of the cases was completed and the arrested drug peddler was booked under PSA after obtaining sanctions from the concerned authorities.
