It may be recalled, that Government of India has named 4th August as bones and joint day. The core idea of this day is the belief that “strength of the nation lies in strong bones of countrymen”. It suggests “if bones are strong the India will be stronger”.
Bone and Joint Day is not a mere celebration but an opportunity to sensitize the society about the increasing impact of musculoskeletal conditions and promote cost effective prevention and treatment.  It is important to evaluate the performance of orthopaedic fraternity to achieve improved bone health of the masses and define the areas where collective efforts are needed to improve the bone health.
On this Bone and Joint Day Indian Orthopedic Association has decided to organize “Bone and Joint week (29 July to 4th August 2014)” with a slogan of “Save the Bones and Save the Joints”.  The week long activities are planned where four posters with common guidance about bone health, joint health, and back care will be displayed at various places.
