Bollywood, yoga to boost cultural ties between India-Vietnam

NEW DELHI, Feb 22:  Stressing that Vietnam is a pillar of India’s Look East Policy, the External Affairs Ministry today said Bollywood, yoga and tourism will play a vital role in further strengthening bilateral relation between the countries.
Speaking at the Indian Council of Cultural Relation here on the Indo-Vietnam cultural relations, Anil Wadhwa, Secretary (East), MEA, said the country was attaching high priority to strengthening cultural engagement with Vietnam under ASEAN and Mekong Ganga cooperation framework.
“We need to give it a contemporary face through exchanges of youth, sports, promotion of tourism, enhancing air links, Bollywood, Yoga and Ayurveda on the one hand, and strengthening our defence and commercial ties on the other,” he said.
The Mekong-Ganga initiative was built on cooperation in the region defined by two great rivers, the Mekong and the Ganga.  About the future prospects of ties between the two sides, the Secretary said India-Vietnam relations have a far more profound basis than generally known and the popularity of Indian soap opera is growing in Vietnam, which is also an indication of similar value system.  (UNI)
