KARGIL, Apr 9: Sonamarg police recovered the bodies of the missing LAHDC councilor’s son and his associate at Sarbal and Milagarh areas in district Ganderbal.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kargil Sujit Kumar said that the family members of youth namely Mohammad Baqir (27), son of Councilor LAHDC Mohammad Ismail, of Barsoo Kargil and Mohammad Javad (26), son of Rahmatullah of Balti Bazar lodged a missing complaint with Kargil police on April 8 that the duo went to Leh on April 6 and since then they are missing.
During the course of investigation, it came to fore that both the youth were spotted by Drass police when they were traveling towards Srinagar in a Maruti car bearing registration number DL6CH 1158, SSP added.
The youth were stopped by the Drass police, but they made an excuse of going to Machovi, he said.
Due to cold weather conditions, both the youth took shelter in a cave at Sarbal. In the morning one of the youth breathed his last in the cave and his associate also died near Milagarh, SSP stated.
The bodies of the missing youth were recovered by Sonamarg police today at Sarbal and Milagarh and will be handed over to family members for last rites tomorrow, he maintained.
Meanwhile, Advisor to Chief Minister, Qamar Ali Akhoon has conveyed condolences and expressed his solidarity with the bereaved families.
He prayed almighty to give strength to the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss.
