Coldest night of season in Kargil at -13.4

SRINAGAR, Dec 18: After intense searches for last one week, the rescuers of the Army today recovered two bodies of soldiers who went missing after snow avalanche hit their post last week while searches for two other soldiers in North Kashmir was going on.
Army’s rescue teams today recovered two bodies of soldiers identified as Lance Naik MN Pragmanik and Rifleman Shiv Singh from Gruez sector, who went missing last week.
On December 12, an avalanche struck Nani Post of Army’s 36RR in Baktoor area of Kanzalwan in Gurez sector during snowfall. Due to avalanche, three soldiers went missing. One soldier is still untraced.
Army’s search teams retrieved the body of one soldier identified as Sepoy Kaushal Kumar from Patila Post of Army’s 20 Dogra regiment in Nowgam sector of Handwara in Kupwara district three days ago. One soldier is still missing in the sector.
This year, 16 soldiers were killed in three snow avalanches which hit an Army post sand patrol party in Gurez sector.
In the meantime, Kashmir valley is in the grip of intense cold wave conditions due to dry weather that prevailed over the region with Kargil recording lowest night temperature of the season at minus 14.5 degree Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has forecast  that present cold wave conditions are likely to continue till December 22.
Kargil also experienced the coldest night of this winter last night as the minimum temperature dipped over one degree from minus 13.4 degrees Celsius to minus 14.5 degrees Celsius. The day temperature of the place dropped to minus 2.5 degrees Celsius from yesterday’s 4.4 degrees Celsius.
The mercury at nearby Leh settled at the low of minus 11. 1 degrees Celsius last night, one degree up from the previous night’s minus 12.2 degrees Celsius. The day temperature of the place settled at -2.9 degrees Celsius.
Srinagar recorded a low of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius, up from the previous night’s minus 3.7 degrees Celsius. The day temperature of the summer capital was 9 degrees Celsius.
The mercury in Qazigund in South Kashmir settled at a low of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius, a degree up, while Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 2.3 degrees Celsius. The day temperature of these two places settled at 10.8 degrees Celsius  and 9.1 degrees Celsius respectively.
Kupwara in North Kashmir registered a low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius while the day temperature of the place was 9.5 degrees Celsius.
Gulmarg in North Kashmir recorded a low of minus 6.0 degrees Celsius last night while the day temperature settled  at 2.4 degrees Celsius.
The mercury at Pahalgam settled at minus 5.3 degrees Celsius while day temperature was 9.3 degrees Celsius.
