JAMMU, July 23: Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) here today celebrated its 70th foundation day across J&K with enthusiasm.
On this occasion functions were organized by ASCOMS Employees Welfare Association at Batra Hospital, Sidhra; Anganwadi Workers Welfare Association Jammu at block levels, Salal Power Project Workers Union Jyoti Puram in Reasi; J&K Bank Officers Organisation Jammu; Jammu Cooperatives Whole Sale Workers Union at Super Bazar Jammu, NHM Employees Association Jammu, Jammu Club Workers Union, Bhawan Niman Mazdoor Sangh, Project Rattle Kishtwar and many others.
BMS flag was hoisted by Neelam Sharma, BMS general secretary, J&K.
Speaking on the occasion Harbans Choudhary, senior BMS leader and Ashok Choudhary highlighted the principles of BMS framed by Dhotopant Thengdi in 1955 while announcing to form a national level trade union.
Harbans Choudhary stressed upon the Government that before issuing notification on labour codes the objections raised by BMS regarding code on Industrial Relations and occupational safety and health should be revisited otherwise BMS will oppose its implementation.
He also said that at present there are large scale violations of labour laws as workers are forced for 12 hours work and that too without paying any overtime.
He appealed to the LG that locals should be given preference in employments in industries and other infrastructural projects in J&K.
