REASI, June 29: Booth Level Officers (BLOs) of three Assembly segments of Reasi district were today awarded for excellent performance in the General Elections 2014 resulting in record polling turnout of 81%, against 43% of 2009 elections.
Cash prizes of Rs 10,000, Rs 5000 and Rs 3000 along with citation for first, second and third performer; and Rs 500 and citation for 10 BLOs as consolation prize at each Assembly segment level were given away by the election authorities.
District Election Officer (Deputy Commissioner), Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary handed over the cash prizes and certificates of appreciation to 39 BLOs of 3 Assembly segments in the presence of Addl DDC Rajinder Singh Tara, ACD Joginder Singh Rai, SDM Mahore Ashwani Khajuria, ACR Tilak Raj Shastri, CMO Dr Mohd Younis, PO DRDA Dr Jagdish Mehra, DIO Parvinder Kour, CDPO Pritam Lal Thapa and other senior officers
BLOs Nazir Ahmed, Raghuvir Singh and Majit Singh bagged the first, second and third prize and awards for 57-Gulabgarh Assembly Segment while Narinder Kishore, Raj Singh, Manjit Singh of 58-Reasi and Mohd Mubarak, Chatter Singh and Mohan Singh of 59-Gool Arnas Assembly segment respectively bagged the top three awards.
Apart from them, 30 BLOs were awarded consolation prize and appreciation certificates.
Meanwhile, 10 officials drawn from various departments, who organised 44 photo exhibitions across district under supervision of PO DRDA Dr Mehra were given special awards.
The DC complimented the exemplary inter-departmental coordination between Election Department, Rural Development, Social Welfare, Health, Revenue and other agencies for eliciting record turnout and smooth conduct of general elections to Lok Sabha with record increase of voter turnout from previous 43% to 81% and reducing gender gap from 20% to less than 1%.
He also laid a roadmap for forthcoming Assembly Elections, strengthening BLOs, Village SVEEP teams and retaining the first position of district in the state as far as electoral turnout is concerned.
BLOs were also imparted training on Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls commencing from July 17, 2014 till October 1st for the Assembly elections scheduled to be held in November-December.
The District Administration has announced around 100 awards for various officials and teams to promote competitions and recognise extraordinary and exemplary work done for strengthening democracy.
