More blankets, tents being sent to Jammu: Dr Jitendra

NEW DELHI, Sept 12 : Having returned from his tour of Kashmir valley and on the eve of his two-day visit to flood hit areas of districts Udhampur and Reasi beginning tomorrow, Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Space and Atomic Energy said here today that in response to a request from the affected districts of Jammu province, a fresh installment of blankets and tents  is being arranged.
This supply may be sought from the National Emergency Reserve (NER) of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) or some other sources, he added.
Meanwhile, Dr Jitendra Singh disclosed that the Centre has also received a request from Divisional Commissioner, Jammu for more tents which is under consideration of the Border Management Division of Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Dr Singh said, there are a huge number of voluntary offers being made for transport of material to the State from Delhi and other States, and while in the existing circumstances, the supply to Srinagar depends primarily on air-route, the supply to Jammu areas can be sent through road and rail route as well.
He informed that National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) has received request to arrange one lakh food packets daily for at least 3 – 5 days with each packet containing rice (1 kg), oil (1 litre), in addition to Dal and Masala. After this, the State administration may also be expected to arrange local godowns and preparation of food locally through State as well as voluntary agencies, he added.
Ministry of Textiles, according to Dr Jitendra Singh, has been approached to arrange for bulk number of blankets.  Meanwhile, arrangements are also being made for receiving and distributing blankets and other material from voluntary sources from across the country, he added.
Referring to the request made by Chief Minister to a transport special chemical for destroying animal corpses, Dr Jitendra Singh said, this option is being worked out with the concerned experts.
Reiterating the Narendra Modi Government’s commitment of no-holds-bar assistance for rescue and relief operations in flood hit Jammu & Kashmir, Dr Jitendra Singh reassured the flood hit victims that the Central Government as well as the Army and BSF will leave no stone unturned to put in place the collapsed infrastructure in the State.
