JAMMU, Dec 10: A Dogri folk music event was organized by Bhartiya Kala Sangam (BKS) at K L Saigal Hall, here today.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta presided over the function while ex-MLC Vikram Randhawa was the chief guest on the occasion. Besides office bearers of Bhartiya Kala Sangam, its chairman T R Sharma, Director Romesh Singh Chib and Urja Singh Slathia were also present.
During the function, eminent folk artists performed Dogri cultural events based on ‘Karkan’. The artists including instrumentalists who performed in the program were Surinder Singh Manhas and party, Garu Ram and party, Raj Kumar Jogi and party, Ramesh Jogi and party, Naresh N B and party, Meerana Jamwal and party as well as Chandan Jassu on Sinth.
Speaking on the occasion, Kavinder Gupta and Vikram Randhawa said that Dogra land is full of rich culture in which ‘Karks’ have a very impressive role. They urged the organizers of BKS to bring forth other art forms of Jammu region on the stage which are equally important to uplift the regional culture.
Earlier, T R Sharma gave a brief account of cultural and literary activities undertaken by Bhartiya Kala Sangam and reiterated its resolve to widely spread the message of peace and harmony through power of art, culture and languages continuing its efforts to induct budding artists to showcase their talent.
Sponsored by Union Ministry of Culture under Culture Function Grant Scheme (S&F Section), the program was anchored by renowned Radio/TV Announcer Rajni Anubhav. It concluded with vote of thanks presented by Romesh Singh Chib.
