Excelsior Correspondent
PARGWAL LoC, June 4: Attributing prevailing distress on the borders to lack of policy of the BJP led Government at the Centre, National Conference Provincial President Devender Singh Rana today said jingoism won’t insulate people from shelling and firing from across the border.
“There is a continued blood trail from Poonch to Kathua on Line of Control and International Border with residents of the forward areas and soldiers falling like mute ducks”,  Rana said while interacting with the shelling hit people at Pargwal in the Akhnoor Sector this afternoon.
The delegation comprised former minister and Senior State Vice President Surjeet Singh Slathia, former minister, Babu Ram Pal, State Vice Presidents Rattan Lal Gupta and Th Kashmira Singh, former MLA Bimla Luthra besides Dharamvir Singh Jamwal,  Ashok Singh, Dr. Gafoor, Master Baldev Singh Bahu, Sucha Singh, Sandeep Singh, Rohit Kerni, Tejpal Singh, Rohit Bali and others.
Surjeet Singh Slathia also extended his solidarity with the affected people and said the Government cannot stand as a fence watcher to their miseries. He said the insensitivity and callousness being demonstrated by the Coalition Government has assumed alarming proportions with nobody showing any sense of accountability.
The Provincial President expressed concern over spurt in shelling and said the entire border population has been left vulnerable to heavy mortar shells. An unprecedented sense of insecurity is prevalent in the forward villages, with people running helter-skelter for their lives, he said, adding that all activities have come to standstill. He said the shelling has exposed security preparedness to meet the challenge due to lack of political will. The political dispensation, both at the Centre and in the State, is indulging in rhetoric as no effort has been made to douse the flames, he added.
He said that the entire border stretch is presenting a ghost-like situation with BJP stalwarts thumping their backs in the delusion of doing something great and heroic. “The BJP leadership seems to be disconnected with ground realities”, he said and expressed surprise over the neglect of the PDP-BJP dispensation towards suffering people.
Rana also asked the Government to spell out the exigency plan drawn for meeting unprecedented border situation, especially in respect of lodging, boarding, medicare, rations etc to the displaced people. He said the current heat spell has added to their miseries and it is distressing to see the border dwellers, including women and children, taking refuge in public places without any facility.
“Though this is not the occasion for blame-game yet the BJP must do some introspection and soul searching over the passé the nation is in”, he said and assured that entire National Conference cadre stands behind the unfortunate people at this hour of crisis.
