BJP ULB Cell delegation calls on Tomar, submits memorandum

JAMMU, Sept 10: A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Urban Local Bodies Cell called on Union Minister of Agriculture, Narendra Singh Tomar here, today and submitted a memorandum of demands to him. The delegation was led by party’s Urban Local Bodies Cell, Sanjay Kumar Baru.
It brought various issues related to Panchayats, Urban Local Bodies, Tourism, Agriculture and Horticulture sectors in the notice of visiting Union Minister seeking his immediate intervention in settling these issues.
The memorandum said Panchayats in J&K have been fully empowered after the implementation of 73rd Amendment of the Constitution of India but unfortunately even after implementation of 74th Amendment, Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in JKUT have not been given any due consideration to ensure their empowerment.
It said the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah had invited elected Sarpanches and Panches to New Delhi for interaction to know their grievances and take suggestions from them to strengthen Panchayats. But no such initiative has been taken regarding elected representatives of ULBs from JKUT. The delegation demanded that similar meeting of representatives of ULBs be arranged with Union Home Minister.
It said District Development Councils (DDCs), Block Development Councils (BDCs) and Panchayats have been allocated adequate development funds whereas, ULBs are not able to meet out various public demands for want of adequate funds within the provisions of 74th Amendment.
The delegation requested that special attention be paid to develop tourist spots in Jammu, especially the religious places like Shiv Khouri, Sihar Baba, Mini Kashi, Nau Devian, Baba ,,Dhansar, Baba Pehar Devta,Purmandal to attract more pilgrims. A special package should be provided to upgrade the infrastructure and related facilities, hygienic conditions for stay and other logistics.
JMC Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta, Dy. Mayor, Purnima Sharma, Committee Chairman, Narendra Singh, Yashpal Sharma, Kuldeep Singh, BJP JMC Chief Whip, Parmod Kapahi, Councillors Kapil Chib and Ajay Gupta were the other members of delegation.
