BJP terms general budget ‘jugglery of figures’

NEW DELHI, Feb 28:
The main Opposition BJP today termed as  “jugglery of figures” the general budget 2013-14 presented by Finance Minister P Chidambaram in the Lok Sabha.
“I had expected that Finance Minister P Chidambaram will present such budget only. In a single word this budget is jugglery of figures. This is a very cleverly drafted budget,” senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha told reporters commenting on the budget at Parliament premises.
Mr Sinha said the budget has ‘failed’ to solve the “main problems” before the country’s economy.
“It has failed to tackle the challenges before the country which are fiscal deficit, inflation, current account deficit and revival of investment,” Mr Sinha, a former finance minister, said.
Mr Sinha said there was no roadmap in the budget to revive situation for investment both domestic and foreign.
He alleged that there was a lack of confidence and trust deficit in the Congress-led UPA government.
Mr Sinha claimed that the government did not allocate adequate funds for several important sectors and schemes.
“There was not a single word on river-interlinking project. Allocation for defence has been decreased in comparison to the last year. Funds for MGNREGA have been decreased,” the senior BJP leader said.
“There is nothing for the common man and the farmers. Burden of about Rs 18,000 crore will be put on the common man. There is only promises for the common man in this budget. Implementation of promises made in the last budget is very poor,” he added.
Janata Dal (United) president Sharad Yadav said the budget has ‘failed’ to tackle “economic problems before the nation.”
“After this budget the economic problems and price rise will increase. The budget does not provide any relief to the common man,” Mr Yadav added.
BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi alleged that the budget was a non-performer.(UNI)
