UDHAMPUR, Mar 29: BJP State general secretary, Pawan Khajuria has strongly advocated for enhancement of rent of the land which is under the Defence forces for over last 40 years.
Addressing a public meeting at Garhi Udhampur, he said the other demands of the people like one time settlement has also been taken up with the Defense Ministry by the Party and concerned MPs.
Khajuria said that army needed land in Garhi area and the people gave the same on rent over 40 years back. But since then the rent has not been enhanced despite the fact that the cost of living has increased many fold over these hears, he added.
He said it has become imperative on the part of Defence Ministry to make the reasonable enhancement in the rent. He said the permanent solution also lies in the one time payment to the land owners after assessing the local price of the land.
Khajuria said that the BJP has made its stand clear that any department of the Government which acquires or takes on rent any private land, building, it should regularly pay the dues and make enhancement of rent from time to time and find a permanent solution so that the land owners are in a position to invest the compensation received thus in some other works to earn their livelihood.
The BJP leader said that the issue has already been raised with the Defence Minister, who has assured that his Ministry will soon take a positive approach and issue necessary directions to meet the long pending and genuine demands of the people of Garhi.
