JAMMU, Sept 16: Working of the PDP-BJP coalition Government especially performance of the BJP Ministers, legislators and other senior functionaries has come under fresh scrutiny of BJP national president Amit Shah, who has deputed two senior party leaders to Jammu and Kashmir in the next one week for review of the situation followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shah himself inter-acting with the State party leaders.
The visit by two senior party leaders came close on the heels of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s four-day trip to Jammu and Kashmir during which he received large-scale complaints against the coalition Government as well as the BJP leadership from the delegations that met him at various places.
Insiders in the BJP told Excelsior that BJP president Amit Shah has deputed party’s general secretary (organizations) Ram Lal to Jammu and Kashmir on two-day visit on September 17 and 18 followed by party’s pointman in the State and Incharge J&K, Ram Madhav on September 22 and 23.
“Both these senior leaders, who look after the functioning of PDP-BJP coalition Government in the State with particular reference to working of the BJP Ministers and organizations, would spent a day each in Jammu and Srinagar of their two-day visit and then report to Amit Shah,” sources said.
While Ram Lal will be in Jammu on September 17 and in Kashmir on September 18, Madhav will visit Jammu on September 22 and Kashmir on September 23. Both the BJP leaders will be accompanied by party’s national vice president Incharge J&K, Avinash Rai Khanna.
Their visits, according to sources, will be followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah’s direct inter-action with top brass of Jammu and Kashmir including Ministers, legislators and senior party functionaries in New Delhi on September 25 on the sidelines of National Council meet. They will also deliberate on host of issues faced by the State Government as well as J&K unit of the BJP.
“The BJP high command has already been briefed by Rajnath Singh. They will get further briefing from two senior party leaders-Ram Lal and Ram Madhav in the next one week. This will be followed by the Prime Minister and the national party president’s direct meeting with top BJP leadership of J&K in which the functioning of coalition Government in general and BJP Ministers and organization in particular, would come up for very high-level review,” sources said.
They added that Ram Lal will also chair Core Group meeting of the BJP tomorrow evening in which threadbare discussions would be held on host of complaints received by the party high command on the problems and grievances of the people especially in Jammu region, where the party had won 25 out of 37 Assembly seats and where the youths were being brazenly ignored in recruitments especially by the PSC and Jammu and Kashmir Bank. People of Ladakh have also voiced their grievances at various forums.
Confirming that the BJP high command was upset with working of PDP-BJP coalition Government on some issues, apart from the organization, sources said large number of delegations that met Rajnath Singh in Jammu and Kashmir were highly critical of working of some of the Ministers of coalition Government as well as State unit of the BJP leaders, which has led to neglect of Jammu region as a whole.
Sources said the BJP high command could ask the Government to go for holding of Panchayat and Municipal elections in the State as elected representatives of these two grass-root level bodies could help overcome ‘governance deficit’ by getting local works done as the people were suffering a lot on this account.
Sources didn’t rule out changes in the BJP structure, both at the Government level as well as organization, to streamline functioning of the coalition and the party. However, they said, this would depend on the review to be taken by BJP veterans Ram Lal and Ram Madhav in the next one week.
“The BJP high command has taken very seriously the repeated complaints against the coalition Government especially the BJP Ministers, legislators and senior functionaries that they have not been able to ensure development of Jammu region and generate employment opportunities for the youth, which has resulted into large-scale resentment among the people,” sources said.
Worthwhile to mention here that Rajnath Singh had returned from four-day visit of Jammu and Kashmir along with plethora of complaints against the Government including the BJP Ministers and organization though he had come to review security situation and meet stakeholders on Kashmir situation.
Rajnath had admitted at the press conference that blatant discrimination in PSC recruitments figured before him. Even, he had to ask the State Government to hold Municipal and Panchayat elections in the State, which were pending for a long time now.
