JAMMU, Feb 14: Following the declaration of yesterday’s State Core Group meeting as null and void by Central leadership, the BJP State Election Committee met here this evening and reviewed the list of candidates for the Legislative Council elections to be held on March 2 by adding some more names to it to be submitted to the party High Command for finalization.
According to Party sources, the Party High Command in New Delhi yesterday raised some objections in the list of candidates short –listed by the Core Group of the State and termed it illogical with the remarks that the Election Committee of the State was the only Constitutional and appropriate body to select the candidates and not the Core Committee.
Sources said that soon after the list reached Union Capital the National organizational general secretary of the Party Ram Lal expressed his surprise over it as the names of some deserving candidates did not figure in the list.
He immediately contacted the senior leaders in the State expressing his displeasure over the list and issued instructions to them to review it by holding a meeting of Election Committee immediately. He made it clear to the State leadership that the Election Committee is the appropriate forum for the selection of candidates.
Sources said following the directives of high command the State leadership convened a meeting of Election Committee at Party Headquarters here this evening and reviewed the list by including some more names in it.
Sources said the meeting was chaired by BJP president and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma and others who were present in it included MP (RS), Shamsher Singh Manhas, former State president, Ashok Khajuria, Party organizational general secretary, Ashok Kaul, general secretary and MLA Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta, MLA Kishtwar, Sunil Sharma, BJP senior leader Chander Mohan Sharma, Mahila Morcha president Priya Sethi, Mr Somraj Prabhari, Udhampur-Doda and Party vice president Vibodh Gupta.
Sources said some new names were added in the list which included Chander Mohan Sharma, Satish Sharma from Billawar, Aseem Gupta and Virenderjit Singh. The names of Ashok Khajuria, Yudhvir Sethi, Ramesh Arora, Vibodh Gupta, Charanjit Singh Khalsa, Som Nath Khajuria, Dr Darkshan Andrabi and Sonam Dorjay which were short-listed by Core Committee yesterday were also recommended by the Election Committee today.
