UDHAMPUR, June 19: Former Minister and JKNPP President Harsh Dev Singh today stated that BJP regime in J&K has caused significant bitterness among the people, surpassing even the impact of the Corona Virus.
He was addressing workers’ meetings in Battal and Thalora Villages in Udhampur East Constituency.
Singh criticized the BJP Government for downgrading the historical state of J&K to a Union Territory (UT), stripping it of its statehood status and development packages.
He accused the Government of allowing outsiders to encroach upon local lands and jobs, suppressing dissenting voices, demolishing institutions, and running the state through proxy rule since 2018.
“The eviction of poor farmers from their lands and the imposition of property taxes have intensified resentment among both urban and rural populations,” he said.
Singh further highlighted the undemocratic process of enacting laws for J&K by bureaucrats in the central government without legislative approval, exacerbating the disconnect between decision-makers and the common people. He criticized the BJP for using J&K as a testing ground for their experiments, without considering the consequences faced by the people.
The former Minister pointed out the lack of tangible development on the ground despite the government’s claims of achievements.
He cited power and water crises, ration problems, collapsed houses in natural disasters, non-payment of wages to daily-rated workers, unemployment among educated youth, and the paralysis of academic activities in remote village schools.
Singh also condemned the pervasive corruption and the labelling of dissenters as anti-nationals.
Singh urged the people to support the National Panthers Party (NPP) to replace the authoritarian BJP government in J&K, emphasizing the need for change and an end to the suffocating policies of the ruling party.
Prominent figures who also spoke at the event included Manju Singh, Raj Kapoor, Dina Nath (BDC Chairman Majalta), Dharam Singh, Monika (Sarpanch Battal), and Sunita Bhagat (Sarpanch Dhamma).
