JAMMU, Jan 5: Asserting that power hungry BJP continued to maintain ‘criminal silence’ on excessive and unbearable discrimination with Jammu region and especially the educated youth, senior vice president of Pradesh Congress Committee and former minister Sham Lal Sharma today said that BJP Ministers and Legislators must break silence on the issue or come out of the Government.
Addressing a crowded press conference at Press Club here today, Sharma, who was accompanied by PCC general secretaries- Vikram Malhotra, S. Manjit Singh, Shahnawaz Choudhary and PYC president, Pranab Shagotra, launching a scathing attack on BJP leadership from Jammu region said that people of this region reposed high faith in the BJP leadership with the hope that representatives of this party would perform in better way and provide them justice in all spheres. The people offered great win to this party and took their number up to 27. But unfortunately, being in power for the past three years now, the gullible people from Jammu region are today feeling duped and stabbed in the back. They are shattered with its ‘worst ever performance’ and total surrender of the Jammu BJP leadership before the Kashmir centric PDP just for the lust of power.
Referring to the grave injustice being meted out to the educated and competent youth of Jammu region by the State recruiting agencies- Public Service Commission and SSRB, Sham Sharma said that for the recruitment of Assistant Professors, lecturers and teachers, lion’s share has gone to the Kashmir region while Jammu and Ladakh regions have been totally ignored. The PDP is proving totally anti-Jammu and anti-Ladakh and unfortunately, spineless BJP leadership has just shut its mouth and gone to deep slumber. The party Ministers and Legislators are only bothered about their perks/ salaries and facilities and it seems that attending public issues is none of their business.
He said Central Government sanctioned 10,758 SPOs for J&K, out of which 8992 were recruited in Kashmir while Jammu was provided share of just 1457. In the recent list of 2154 posts of teachers published by SSRB, Kashmir has been provided a big share of 86 % with 1864 posts, while Jammu was given just 290 ( 14%) posts while not even single post was sanctioned to Jammu, Kathua, Poonch, Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar districts. Unfortunately Leh and Kargil districts were also outrightly ignored. For the recruitment of consultants/ doctors, out of 123, 100 posts were provided to Kashmir while just 23 to Jammu region. Even for the recruitment of Junior Engineers, Junior Assistants and many other jobs, a total biased stance has been maintained by the PDP leadership. Even in allotment of funds, in tourism, sports, power, roads and many other sectors, Jammu is being totally discriminated.
The PCC leader said that Kashmir centric PDP is trying to weaken Jammu region in every respect and disturb its peace with its misdeeds. The Chief Minister and her ministers are violating the oath by proving most unfair and biased with the people of other regions. He demanded that BJP must clear its stand on the discrimination with Jammu region or come out of Government as mere walk out was not the solution.
Referring to his stand of creation of Regional Councils for Jammu region and other regions and sub regions, the Congress leader said that only it was the way out today to remove regional discrimination and imbalances.”It is his own stand but tomorrow it may be our party stand. It is still a baby and the movement may get momentum in coming days,” Sham Lal maintained.
He also referred to the SRO 520 and 525 and said that Congress strongly opposes them. He said in July 2014, the total number of contractual /daily wagers were 61011, now Finance Minister Drabu should tell how this figure reached 1.20 lakh. He should explain that how many they have engaged after coming to power in last three years. He said that in coming days Congress would launch massive agitation against this Government and also fight discrimination in the Legislature and outside.
