JAMMU, Dec 14: A delegation of J&K BJP Mahila Morcha with its J&K UT president Rajni Sethi called on IGP Jammu, Mukesh Singh to seek his intervention in curbing the drug menace in Jammu region.
Ms Sethi discussed various problems regarding trafficking of drugs in J&K with the IGP, Jammu. She said that the use of drugs was increasing rapidly in the region and even the educational institutions have not been spared by the duck traffickers, due to which the young generation is become drug- addict.
She alleged that crime against women and the rape cases are also on the rise. She told the IGP Jammu that this problem is assuming alarming proportions as it is being now used by women folk also.
IGP Jammu said that the J&K Police has already made efforts to stop this menace and keep check on drug traffickers.
Sethi conveyed the IGP to organise awareness programmes for the youth. She also gave several suggestions like to organise regional workshops (with NSS), use of print, electronic and social media for creating awareness, to organise exhibitions to sensitize the people about the ill effects of drug abuse and to give awards to encourage the individuals and the institutions who worked for the curbing this menace.
IGP agreed with the suggestions given by the BJP leader and assured take effective steps in this regard. They also submitted a memorandum to the IGP Jammu in this regard.
