CHANDIGARH, Feb 23 : Expressing grave concern over the brutal murder of two Punjab Police personnel at a border outpost in Gurdaspur, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Monday termed the incident a direct assault on the security of a sensitive border state. While offering his condolences to the families of the fallen officers, Chugh asserted that the nation stands in solidarity with the bereaved and vowed that their ultimate sacrifice would not be forgotten.
Given the location of the incident near the Indo-Pak border, the BJP leader demanded an immediate investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He argued that the potential for cross-border involvement makes the case a matter of national security rather than a routine state-level crime. According to Chugh, only a comprehensive inquiry by a central agency can successfully unearth any larger conspiracy aimed at destabilizing the region.
Chugh launched a scathing attack on the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party government, accusing it of a total collapse of the border security grid. He pointed out that this incident follows a series of alarming security breaches, including threats to police stations in Amritsar and over a dozen grenade attacks on police establishments, most notably the strike on the police headquarters in Mohali. He further highlighted the unchecked operations of criminal syndicates within jails and the persistent challenge of drone-based smuggling of narcotics and weaponry as evidence of a “normalized lawlessness” in the state.
The BJP leader questioned the current state of Punjab’s intelligence apparatus, suggesting that the government’s priorities have shifted away from public safety. He claimed that the internal security structure has become increasingly fragile over the past four years, marked by frequent gang wars and the resurgence of terror modules. Chugh asserted that the state cannot be allowed to descend into a security vacuum, given its immense strategic importance to India’s national interests.
Holding the Chief Minister accountable, Chugh demanded that Bhagwant Mann step down from his position as the Home Minister. He stated that the CM has morally forfeited his right to lead the Home department following repeated administrative lapses that have emboldened anti-national elements. Chugh concluded by warning that the state government must either act decisively to restore order or vacate office for a leadership capable of maintaining Punjab’s stability.
