BJP, Independent come to blows

SRINAGAR, Oct 7: Assembly today witnessed angry scenes but  personnel of  Watch and Ward (W&W)  saved the situation from getting violent when  BJP’s  Ravinder Raina and  Independent member Er Sheikh Abdul Rashid almost came to blows.
The trouble started when Er Rashid stormed into the Well of the House and tried to prevent Public Health Engineering and Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Sukhnandan from replying to a question during Question-Hour.
Er Rashid alleged that Speaker Kavinder Gupta had allowed most of the opposition members to speak before starting the Q-Hour while he was “ignored by the chair.’’
As Mr Sukhnandan was replying, Er Rashid rushed towards him and tried to prevent him from speaking. However, W&W personnel prevented him from going near the Minister who also got agitated and exchanged some words with Er Rashid.
However, nothing was audible in the din. BJP member Raina also rushed towards Er Rashid in the Well and both exchanged some angry words that were drowned in the noise. Other ruling members also joined Raina since there was no other opposition member present in the House. NC had announced a boycott and Congress had walked out from the House.
As Raina and Er Rashid rushed towards each other, W&W personnel stopped  them and prevented a clash.
Order was restored in the House only after Speaker allowed Er Rashid to speak before Minister’s reply.
Er Rashid said,  I believe in true secularism not Congress and BJP secularism.   There is a fixed game between present and previous ruling parties, he alleged and demanded from the Chair to allow discussion on beef in the House.
He urged the Speaker to allow his Resolution early so that there could be discussion.          However, Speaker Gupta said he would look into the matter and  give his decision later.
