JAMMU, May 6: Former minister and senior Congress leader Yogesh Sawhney accused the BJP Government of presenting a false picture of normalcy in Jammu & Kashmir. He said that terror attacks have heavily increased in the past few years, and innocent lives are lost every month, while the Centre continues to spread false propaganda.
Taking the example of recent attack in Rajouri, Sawhney said that militancy has significantly gone up since the revocation of statehood. The attack on an Army truck in Poonch recently in which five soldiers were martyred was another painful reminder that the terrorist threat is very much real and present in Jammu & Kashmir. The Centre must answer if this is what they call normalcy and security.
In a press statement here today Sawhney while sharing grief of the families of people who have been martyred in the recent attacks across Jammu & Kashmir, most recently in Rajouri and Poonch, said that it is very sad that the rest of India is blindsided into believing that situation is getting better in Jammu & Kashmir, while it is completely opposite to it.
He further added that it is a shame that the Centre continues to ignore the security issue. It is very clear that the Modi Government is least concerned with Jammu and Kashmir’s core challenges, but in fact is only trying to create a false image. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the revocation of Article 370 has dealt a blow to militancy in the region. However, thousands of civilians have lost their lives, there is increasing involvement of local youth, and despite heavy operations on paper, militant activity has become bolder.
The terrorist attack in Rajouri district’s Dangri village in an IED blast and other such incidents, many of which saw the death of children too, is the failure of the Government to provide safety and security to the people, Sawhney said.
The former Minister added that the Union Govt must stop trying to brainwash the public and take real steps on an immediate basis to control and curb militant activity. The lives of civilians, targeted minority members, migrant labourers, youngsters should not be put in jeopardy, he added.
