JAMMU, Jan 1: Dwelling on the proposed roadmap for future political dispensation, the BJP leaders after their interaction with Governor, N N Vohra today categorically stated that the party along with its coalition partner would chalk out a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) based on consensus.
These views were expressed by party’s State in-charge, Avinash Rai Khanna after their delegation held parleys with the State Governor, who had invited them for discussion on the issue of Government formation in the State.
Reliable sources told EXCELSIOR Vohra during his interaction with the BJP delegation also opined that a stable Government would be in best interest of the State and all options should be explored for such a formation, as per the mandate given by the electorate.
The BJP delegation comprised party MP and incharge J&K Affairs, Avinash Rai Khanna, State president, Jugal Kishore, senior leader Ashok Khajuria and BJP MLAs including Kavinder Gupta, Sukhnandan Choudhary, Sham Choudhary, and Lal Singh.
Elaborating over the meeting at Raj Bhavan, Mr Khanna told EXCELSIOR, “we have sought time from the Governor as discussions were on for giving shape to the future political dispensation in the State”.
“Our party knows how to run a successful coalition Government and a joint agenda can be formulated after consultation with the alliance partner”, he said exuding confidence.
Hinting towards cobbling of a coalition Government soon, Mr Khanna said, “the people of the State will soon get good news on the formation of the Government. We are working towards the formation of a stable Government and all options are being explored”.
To a specific query, if BJP still insisted on having a Chief Minister from Jammu region, he said, “Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh constituted one State and the Chief Minister would be from the State”.
BJP State President, Jugal Kishore Sharma while referring to their interaction with the Governor said, “we have asked him for more time so that we can give final shape to the on-going dialogue with other regional political parties. Our prime objective is to give the State a stable Government and we are working in that direction”.
“There are several issues that have to be discussed before the formation of a coalition and that is why it is taking time”, he said.
Refusing to divulge the names of political parties, with whom BJP was holding parleys, the State chief said, “the process of discussion with other parties was on. People have given us mandate for Government formation and we are exploring all options to give State a stable Government, which can last for full six years”.
While Mr Jugal refused to name PDP, he gave sufficient hints indicating that deliberations were being held with the party and emphatically stated that the new dispensation will be in place before January 19, when the term of existing Government ends.
Subsequently, all the 25 MLAs of the party had detailed interaction at Ashoka Hotel for two hours, starting from 3 pm.
“Most of the Legislators were of firm opinion that the party should form part of the Government as per the mandate given by people. While few MLAs still wanted the party to head the Government, other aired the idea of having a rotational Chief Minister with the alliance partner”, party sources said.
The meet finally concluded after all the party men unanimously decided to leave the final decision to the Central leadership.
