SRINAGAR, May 9: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday claimed that in the first three phases of Parliament elections that were held, Bharatiya Janata Party is facing its worst defeat.
“BJP is facing its worst defeat in the three phases of the Parliament elections that were held so far”, the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister who is contesting Lok Sabha election from Anantnag-Rajouri seat told media persons at Khonmoh area of Pulwama district on Thursday.
BJP is running a campaign on religious issues and talking about the Mangal Sutra, and Hindu-Muslim communal tension as they sense a loss in the initial election phases, she claimed
“The people are aware of the BJP’s religious rhetoric and they have realized that the party won’t do anything for their welfare that is why they (BJP) are bent on spreading communal clashes between Hindus and Muslims to grab votes. People believe in the Congress manifesto which promises to provide 30 lakh jobs, 50 percent reservation for the women folk and to provide gas cylinder at Rs 450”, Mehbooba said.
She said she was sure that people had now awakened.
“If BJP came to power again they will finish the Constitution of India and nobody will have the right to talk or to seek reservations”.
Asked that the Police have issued a notice to the National Conference asking them to reschedule the poll campaign in Sopore township of Baramulla district due to security reasons, Mehbooba said “I feel it is very wrong. Police and administration should remain neutral”.

She said, “I was also supposed to visit the Tral area in the Pulwama district the other day but was not allowed for reasons not known”.
She alleged that “the attitude of Police in north Kashmir, South Kashmir, and central Kashmir is just to support the proxy candidates of the BJP”.
“They are curtailing movements of NC and PDP which are against the rules of the Election Commission of India (ECI),” she said.
In another question, Mehbooba alleged that a situation is being created in south Kashmir to stop her from reaching Parliament.
“I think a situation is being created in Anantnag and Rajouri Poonch areas just to create an atmosphere to stop Mehbooba Mufti from undertaking the campaign so that people could boycott the elections and they could not come out to vote,” she said when asked about the recent encounters.
“If centre is claiming militancy has been finished in Jammu and Kashmir why the encounters are taking place”, she asked and said, “they try in any way Mehbooba Mufti to stop her from reaching Parliament by creating such incidents on which people are raising fingers in doubt”.
