BJP should explain its position over Cabinet decision on GST: PCC

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, July 4: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has asked the BJP to explain its own position over the unanimous  Cabinet decision of  October 14, 2016 over the issue of GST in the State before blaming the  opposition  and others  for the  delay in its implementation in J&K State.
PCC chief spokesperson, Ravinder Sharma asked BJP to explain  its position to the people over the  Cabinet decision No. 94/10/2016  dated 14-10-2016, which read as “Pursuant to the presentation made by Finance Minister, the Cabinet approved and directed the Finance Department to   formulate and discuss with Central Government and GST Council modalities of extending GST while keeping our Special Constitutional Position and power to tax intact;   to draft the State Government’s own legislation in consultation with Law Department, Union Finance Ministry and legal experts;  to undertake preparatory work, in particular drawing out plans  for IT infrastructure, pending final decision of the Government regarding its implementation”.
Blaming the PDP-BJP Government for pushing State into chaos and confusion  by deliberate delay over the implementation of GST regime in the State, the JKPCC has said that if the course of separate legislation was not to be adopted as per its State Cabinet decision of October 2016, then the State Government was legally and constitutionally competent to pave way for the extension of the Central legislation through presidential order by simply giving its concurrence and why all this eye wash exercise.
Sharma questioned the intention behind creating uncertainty, confusion and artificial contradiction and delay in the implementation of new tax regime, when both the partners (PDP-BJP) have been on the same page. The two coalition partners are out to mislead and befool their respective electorate by adopting the mode of passing the resolution in the Assembly without any legal or constitutional requirement.
While PDP-wants to play with the sentiments of safeguarding the article 370 without owning the extension of Central Legislation upon itself only, the BJP wants to hide its surrender of ideology and philosophy over Article 370 but the recording of Cabinet decision expose the game plan and the present course being adopted just to hoodwink people  by  coalition partners to save their Government trough eye -wash exercise and  escape the blame for the confusion and chaos, PCC leader maintained.
