JAMMU, July 20: The BJP today divested three Municipal councillors of party positions for “anti-party activities” in Kathua district today.
The Disciplinary Committee of party led by its chief spokesperson, Sunil Sethi probed a complaint against the three councillors who had served the No Trust Motion against the party’s Kathua Municipal Council president, Naresh Sharma and vice president, Rekha Kumari on July 12.
Taking strong exception to the anti party activities of party councillors, the three member BJP Disciplinary Committee including chairman Sunil Sethi and its two members Virenderjit Singh and N D Rajwal served a show cause notice to them on July 14 asking them to explain their position within four days failing which disciplinary action is taken against them.
However, the party councillors failed to reply the Show Cause Notice till date forcing the party to divest them of party positions as pressure tactics.
The Committee submitted a report to J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina who ordered the three persons to be removed from their current positions and were further warned of stringent action, a BJP spokesman said.
Municipal councillors — Anirudh Sharma, Bhopinder Raj, Ravinder Pathania, Karan Singh and Joginder Pal — from Kathua Municipal Council had moved a No-Confidence Motion against president and vice president of the Council , which was gross indiscipline on their part, he said.
The dismissed officials comprised Sharma, the party’s district spokesperson; Pathania, the district convenor of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Bhopinder Raj (P Bose), the SC Morcha district president of the party.
They were issued show-cause notices by the party’s Disciplinary Committee and directed to submit replies within four days but the officials did not submit any proper reply, the spokesman said.
The party has also warned them to mend their ways failing which they will face termination from the party membership, spokesman said.
He said the action was necessitated to maintain discipline in the party as the members failed to reply show cause notice within stipulated time frame.
