NEW DELHI, Mar 2: BJP MP (Rajya Sabha) Avinash Rai Khanna has urged the Union Government to take immediate steps in brining back to India the body of Chamail Singh of Akhnoor who was abducted by Pakistani Rangers in 2008 and later killed in Kotlakhpat Jail, Lahore on January 15 this year.
Mr Khanna wrote a letter to the External Affairs Minister, Salman Khursheed in this regard today. The letter urged him to take the issue with the Government of Pakistan and also urge it to punish the culprits responsible for his killing.
In the letter Mr Khanna said, though over one and a half months have passed, the family of Chamail Singh have not received his body nor any action was taken against the person who has killed him in the jail.
It further said that the family of Chamail Singh is not in a position to meet the expenses to bring the dead body back to the village.
He urged Mr Khursheed that the Government should take up the issue with Pakistan asking it send the body back to his native village Pargwal in teshil Akhnoor of Jammu district and also punish the guilty.
It may be recalled that State BJP Human Rights Cell led by its convener Dr Tahir and Sat Sharma (CA) took up the issue with Mr Khanna.
Mr Khanna while expressing his concern over the killing said that he will take up the issue in Rajya Sabha also. The BJP along with the villagers of Pargwal and relatives of Mr Singh also staged demonstrations at Jammu and in Pargwal several times during last one and a half moth condemning the killing of Mr Singh in Pak jail. BJP and Panthers Party had also given an Adjournment Motion on the issue in State Assembly yesterday.
