NEW DELHI : After its historic win in Haryana and Maharashtra, the BJP is quite hopeful of victory in Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand also where Assembly polls will take place in five phases beginning November 25. The BJP, this time too, will depend on charisma of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Assembly polls in flood-effected J&K and Jharkhand will again test the popularity of the Prime Minister after he led the BJP to victory in Maharashtra and Haryana recently. “We welcome the Election Commission decision. The BJP is prepared (for the elections),” BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told UNI.
He said like in Maharashtra and Haryana, the party’s main issues will be good governance and development in the upcoming polls.
“The BJP will fight the elections to free both the states from corruption and bad governance by present governments,” the BJP Rajya Sabha MP said.
While Omar Abdullah of the J&K National Conference is the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Hemant Soren of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha is Jharkhand’s CM. The Congress is part of the J&K government while it is also supporting Mr Soren’s party.
“We are definitely going to win in J&K and Jharkhand,” Mr Naqvi claimed.
When asked whether the BJP will have a tie up with any party in J&K and Jharkhand, Mr Naqvi said his party will go alone in both the states.
Polling will be held in both the states in five phases beginning from November 25, the Election Commission announced yesterday.
The first phase of polling in J&K and Jharkhand will be held on November 25, the second on December 2, the third on December 9, the fourth on December 14 and the fifth on December 20. The counting of votes will be held on December 23. The term of both assemblies expires in January next year. The term of the 87-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly ends on January 19 while that of the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly ends on January 3. (AGENCIES)
