JAMMU, Jan 6: While Kashmir is getting the lion’s share in employment in the present BJP-PDP Government, the Jammu region regretfully is made to content with a negligible share and that too under reserved categories, said Harshdev Singh JKNPP chairman and former minister.
“There have been many occasions where BJP Ministers had conceded the posts of Jammu region to Kashmir in a bid to keep their Valley masters in good humour and thereby retain their second fiddle role in the Govt,” he alleged while addressing a press conference, here today.
Making a particular mention of the 10,000 posts of SPOs that were sanctioned by the Government of India for J&K, Singh regretted that all such 10,000 posts were assigned to various districts of Kashmir region with full consent of BJP ministers. He said that the BJP ministers in the Cabinet not only surrendered the posts to Kashmir at the cost of Jammu youth but made statements justifying that decision as having been taken in national interest.
Harshdev Singh further stated that the deprivation of Jammu in the appointment of SPOs was followed by its neglect in subsequent selections made in the Departments of Education, Health, Planning besides others. “Highly prejudiced selection process became evident from the recent select list of Asstt Professors issued by PSC in the disciplines of History, Biotechnology, Computer Sciences, Physics, English, Psychology where Jammu region got negligible share in the list despite maximum number of candidates shortlisted from it,” he said.
“Out of 34 selected candidates in History, 9 belonged to Jammu region, 7 candidates out of 26 in Physics, 9 in Psychology out of 27 and likewise in other subjects. The selected candidates mainly belonged to categories and the PSC had no option as SCs belong to Jammu region only,” he elaborated and further pointed out highly biased and obnoxious selections in Economics and Statistics Directorate, wherein out of 26 candidates selected for Junior Statistical Assistants only 1 belonged to Jammu region. Similarly, he said, in Health and Medical Education Department, out of 123 selections of Consultants in Radiology, Medicine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Orthopaedics, Gynaecology, Pathology and Paediatrics, only 23 belonged to Jammu region.
Asserting that discrimination against educated unemployed youth of Jammu region had aggravated during the BJP-PDP rule, Balwant Singh Mankotia, who was also present in the press conference, cautioned the mandated leaders of Jammu region to ensure justice to the youth by ensuring them a fair deal in the selection process.
