KARGIL, Aug 2: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates today filed their nomination papers for Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) elections to be held on August 22.
The candidates were accompanied by BJP State president Jugal Kishore Sharma, Member Parliament (MP) and J&K Prabhari Avinash Rai Khanna, State general secretary Rajiv Jasrotia, senior leader from Kashmir Sofi Yousuf, State secretary Munish Sharma and district president Haji Khuddam.
Interacting with media persons, Jugal Kishore Sharma said BJP has decided to contest 12 seats and will support like minded candidates at three other seats in Kargil. He hoped that BJP will emerge as a strong group in the Kargil council.
Avinash Rai Khanna while speaking, said that the party is well aware of the problems of Kargil people and has been consistently raising the issues of good road and air connectivity, round the year operation of Zojila tunnel and adequate provision of funds for development.
BJP has already taken up their genuine demands at the national level regarding airport and all weather connectivity to Srinagar, concession in air fare and setting up of examination centre for Civil Services at Leh.
Later, these leaders held separate meetings of district office bearers, members of core group and the party candidates to seek their views about the ground situation, discuss and evolve a strategy aimed at effective campaigning and victory of the party candidates.
