JAMMU, May 18: Bhartiya Janata Party today asked the Sikh community of Jammu and Kashmir to launch a signature campaign against Congress leader Sajjan Kumar, who was recently acquitted by a Delhi Court in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
Police have already presented the challan in 1992 in this case against Mr Kumar and others but unfortunately, the challan had not yet been produced in the Supreme Court, R P Singh, BJP in-charge, J&K, said while addressing a programme here.
“We (Sikhs) must join hands and launch a signature campaign against Sajjan Kumar to get him punished,” Mr Singh said.
He added that the Sikh members should sign the copies of challan of 1992 presented against Mr Kumar and others and the same should be sent to President Pranab Mukherjee and the Supreme Court.
As per the police challan, Mr Kumar is one of the ‘main accused’ and ‘guilty’, he must be punished, said the BJP leader.
He appealed to the members of Sikh community to aggressively launch the campaign demanding punishment to the accused.
Some of the members attending the programme also appealed to Mr Singh to also raise and discuss the difficulties being faced by the Sikh members in the Valley.
The members alleged that the Sikhs were being forced to conversions and inter-religion marriages in some parts of the Valley.
The day long programme was also addressed by BJP State general secretaries Kavinder Gupta and Bali Bhagat, senior leaders S Varinderjit Singh, Charanjit Singh Khalsa, S Amreek Singh and Gurdyal Singh Bali.
