A bizarre case of corruption by a responsible Government functionary has been unearthed by the Crime Branch that sends shock down the spine. Imagine candidates who failed in 10+2 examination, who got third division in Matriculation and whose performance as per records of schools and colleges is substandard, have been able to grab medical seats and will be the future doctors in the Health Department of the State. No lesser a person than the Chairman (former) of the Board of Professional Entrance Examination, Mushtaq Ahmad Pir is allegedly involved in an incredible scandal. He did a novel thing. Using his political clout, he managed to open a special centre of examination where selected candidates were allowed to sit for examination. Huge money was taken as bribe from the candidates and what actually happened inside the examination hall is not known to anybody. The police have raided the house of this former officer and investigation is going on. The question is how he could manage to establish a special examination centre and who allowed him to do so when the rules are very clear about how many and at what locations centres for examination are to be opened. The police should give out full information about this dare-devilry and the law of the land should come into motion. We would also suggest that full credibility of other important professional examinations should also be established. In particular, examinations of national importance like UPSC have to be monitored closely for the satisfaction of deserving candidates. The purpose of examination is to trace meritorious students/candidates from among the available stuff. No mismanagement has to be allowed in these crucial examinations.
