JAMMU, Sept 21: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) successfully organized a training program for NGOs to sensitize Gram Panchayat Presidents and Secretaries across the J&K, Ladakh and Punjab (6 Districts). The program was attended by senior members of five NGOs.
Tilak Raj, Director and Head, Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office stated that BIS has taken an initiative to sensitize Gram Panchayats for utilizing Indian Standards for Government programs and schemes. The Gram Panchayats are already provided with a booklet of important and useful Indian Standards relevant to different sectors.
These NGOs have been trained to Interact with Presidents and secretaries of Gram Panchayats for explaining the context regarding utilization of Indian Standard in the implementation of various government plans and Schemes as mentioned in the detailed letter sent to Panchayats.
The technical lectures were delivered by Hitesh Yadav and Niraj Mishra Scientist-B of BIS-JKBO on overview of BIS activities, concepts of quality and standardization at national and international level, benefits of implementation of standards.
Meanwhile, with recent Notification by Government of India, 343 districts across the Country have been covered under the Mandatory Hallmarking Order. To understand the Current Consumer awareness and preference for Hallmarked jewellery in Non-hallmarked districts a Survey has been planned. As per designed plan nearly 145 surveys per district are to be carried out through Mobile APP covering Consumers, Household, BIS registered Jewellers and Non- registered Jewellers. After submission of the survey questionnaire by the participants, the NGO conducting the survey shall sensitize the participants highlighting the benefits of buying hallmarked jewellery.
