Birla Group adopts ancient pond at Kalibari

KATHUA, Feb 1: After the intervention of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rohit Khajuria, the Birla Group has adopted an ancient pond at Kalibari for renovation.
According to DC Kathua Rohit Khajuria, an ancient pond at Kali Bari Kathua was completely encroached around ten months back and after great efforts, the encroachment was removed.
At the time of encroachment drive, lot of resistance was faced by the administration from political leaders who had encroached this important pond near the national Highway at Kalibari, he said, adding that a total of 20 kanals encroached land was retrieved.
After removal of encroachment from the pond, district administration approached CTM authorities, a mill of the KK Birla Group for the development of the pond under the CRS.
“CTM authorities not only agreed to fund the project but took the work in its hands”, Khajuria said, adding that reputed landscapers and engineers were roped in for the development of the pond.
“This pond has many specialized features and facilities like lotus pond, walking and jogging tracks, yoga corner, play corner for children, fountains and toilets”, the DC said, adding that systematic plantation has been made of different types of plants and flowers.
“The park has been developed with Valley theme and Birla Group has contributed a lot for the development of this pond”, the DC informed.
