Billawar Zila Andolan takes out procession

KATHUA, June 18:  Spearh-eading the struggle for creation of separate Billawar district, the Billawar Zila Andolan took out a procession through main Bazar of Billawar town starting from PWD Rest House Billawar which culminated in a dharna/convention in the Tehsil Ground Billawar. Large number of people from different sections of society and different social and political groups took part in the dharna.
The Andolan, in a resolution on the occasion, termed the Government order under which the posts of SDM Billawar and Basohli were upgraded to Additional Deputy Commissi-oners as welcome step yet it nowhere meets the demand of creating Billawar district. The people cannot be disillusioned and detracted from their struggle to get the genuine demand of creation of Billawar district resolved. The Andolan decided to continue their struggle till creation of Billawar district.
Presided over by the convener of the Andolan Hari Chand Jalmeria Advocate, the convention/dharna at tehsil ground was addressed by Th. Kashmir Singh Ex MLC, BR Upadhiaya, Shanti Sarup Basotra, Romy Khajuria, Jatinder Singh Bhadwal Advocate, Mohan Lal Verma, Durga Dass Upadhiaya, Uttam Chand Rattanpal, Jagdev Singh Miyan, Sagar Chand, KK Khajuria, Mukhtiar Ahmed, Bashir Ahmed Bhatti, Pankaj Basotra, Ravinder Singh Bloria, Rakesh Chandel, Kirpal Singh Bloria, Raghunath Singh, Punnu Ram Jamodia, Sandeep Khajuria, Yog Raj Padha, Rakesh Kumar and others.
Jalmeria in his address explained the extent of decades long pain and suffering of the people of Billawar and adjoining areas due to distant location of district headquarter at Kathua. People from Sarthal, Dhaggar, Bani, Lohai-Malhar, Macchedi, Banjal Bhatwal have to travel over 150-200 kilometers to reach Kathua whereas other areas are also located 80-90 kilometers away. This whole area has suffered neglect despite lapse of 70 years of independence.
