JAMMU, Nov 7: Prof Bhim Singh, patron of the J&K National Panthers Party (NPP) has been removed from his position in the party with immediate effect.
Declaring this at a press conference here this afternoon, NPP chairman and former minister, Harshdev Singh said that Prof Bhim Singh has been removed from the post of patron and all other posts he was holding in the party and has been asked to retire from the party activities and take rest due to his age factor.
Singh said there were talks in the town today about joining of Prof Bhim Singh Gupkar Alliance leaders conference in Jammu . He said the party cadre had suggested Prof Bhim Singh that NPP had nothing to do with the Gupkar Alliance leaders as they were Jammu based party and moreover, will not sit with any such people who promote anti-National agenda.
“Despite conveying this, he has gone beyond the party line. There is no place in the party for those who disrespect the sentiments of Jammu and go against its own party decisions. Participation of Bhim Singh and Anita Thakur in the conference of PAGD is not only the violation of party stand but has also hurt the sentiments of people from Jammu region. This has forced us to remove him and his accomplice from all party positions in the Panthers Party,” Harshdev maintained.
Meanwhile, Prof Bhim Singh claimed that he was invited over morning tea by Dr Farooq Abdullah, president of the National Conference. They met at 11.00 am at the residence of Dr Farooq in Jammu. Others who were present there included former Chief Ministers, Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah, State secretary CPI-Mohd Yousuf Tarigami, Senior Awami National Conference leader, Muzaffar Ahmad Shah. Dr Farooq asked Bhim Singh let them know where he stands in the present crisis J&K is facing.
Bhim Singh claimed that he told the senior Kashmiri leadership that he stands for restoration of statehood without delay with all fundamental rights provided in the Indian Constitution. He also told the leadership from Kashmir that he and the Panthers Party have been pleading with the President of India to convene a meeting of the Parliament to reconsider the restoration of Article 370 on merits. He told that he has been fighting in the Supreme Court for many years in his writ petition seeking removal of Article 35-A of the Constitution. That the Panthers Party stood for restoration of fundamental rights to all the residents of J&K which was possible only after removal of Article 35-A which was valid only for six months as it was issued by the President of India in 1934. He said that fundamental rights in J&K stand hampered because of Article 35-A. This is the Panther Party’s stand that residents of J&K should be provided all fundamental rights without delay.
