Traditional Costumes Show “Paridhan” at JU

JAMMU, June 6: Bhartiya College of Education, Udhampur, bagged first position whereas Sai Shyam College of Education and Shivalik College of Education secured second and third positions respectively in the Traditional Costumes Show “Paridhan”, organised by Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium here today.
The participants walked on the ramp attired in Dogri, Kashmiri, Gojri, Ladakhi, Punjabi, Rajasthani, Gujrati, Marathi, Bengali, Assames, Naga, etc costumes to the tune of folk music.
The women folk perfected their sense of charm and fashion with make-up and ornaments, whereas, the male participants used moustaches, beards, etc, to their getup.
The presentations made by the participants were wonderful depicting richness of the Indian culture and received accolades from the audience.
On the occasion, Prof Jasbir Singh, Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee, was the chief guest, who while speaking, said that the traditional costumes in India greatly vary across parts of the country and are influenced by the local culture, geographical climatic conditions, rural and urban setting, etc.
He further said that the traditional costumes never go out of fashion and the younger generation is in mad race towards western culture.
“Western Music, dance and costumes have influenced the youth like any thing but we have to strict on our roots, Prof Singh, added.
During the Traditional Costumes Show, Maansi Gupta, Dr Anupama Vohra and Vijaya Thakur, were the experts, who evaluated the performance of the participants.
At the crescendo of the programme, all the participants moved from various parts of the auditorium and assembled on the stage to the tune of “Mile Sur Mera Tumhara Toh Sur Bane Hamara”. The programme was conceived by Vijay Atri.
Earlier, Prof NK Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare, University of Jammu, delivered the welcome address while, the programme was compered by Rani Kumari, secretary, Students Cultural Council.
The traditional costumes show was organised for the Private BEd Colleges, in which students from RM Charitable and Educational Trust, NSM College of Education, Sai Shyam College of Education, JK College of Education, Vimal Muni College of Education, Adarsh College of Education, Kalra College of Education, Vaishno Devi College of Education, RS College of Education, Hill People College of Education and Training, Shivalik College of Education, Bhartiya College of Education, Ashoka College of Education and Sant Mela Singh College of Education participated.
Among others present were Prof Neeru Sharma, Co-chairperson, Prof RK Rampal, Prof Parmeshwari Sharma, Dr Vishva Raksha, Dr Anju Thapa, Dr Sandeep Tandon, Dr Kavita Suri, Dr Lalit Sen, Chairpersons, Principals, teacher incharges and students.
The programme was supervised by Dharm Pal Sharma, Gurpal Singh, Kulbhushan Thakur, Balwant Singh Slathia, SS Bhalla, Joginder Singh, Ram Pal, Yash Pal, Madan Lal, Satish Kumar and RP Singh.
