Bharat Nagar Enclave facing water scarcity

JAMMU, Aug 12: The inhabitants of Bharat Nagar Enclave and Lane No 4 are facing acute scarcity of drinking water.
The residents of two localities said that the water supply has been affected in the area for last one week and earlier two, it remains affected for days tighter adding to the problems of hapless residents in this hot and humid weather.
The Bharat Nagar Enclave Residents Welfare Committee said that they had forwarded their representation submitted to Lt Governor to Chief Engineer , Jal Shakti Jammu on June 14 and the Chief Engineer was urged to address the issue of irregular water supply in the area. But most ironically despite passing of nearly two months, no action was taken by the Department which abundantly proves that grievance redressal mechanism is no more effective in the Union Territory.
The Committee said that due to callous attitude shown by the authorities at the helm of affairs in the Jal Shakti Department there is irregular water supply in the area. Recently water was supplied after a gap of eight days which is a serious matter. Hard earned money of the residents of the area is being spent on purchase of water tankers from private operators on daily basis, they added.
The Committee said a 500 feet deep tubewell which was constructed by ERA near the overhand tank in Bharat Nagar Enclave and after functioning for a short period it became non-functional due to the reasons not known to the public.
The residents of both Bharat Nagar Enclave and Lane Number 4 warned agitation in case the water supply was not provided on regular basis. They have also renewed their appeals to LG and other authorities including Commissioner Secretary and Chief Engineer of Jal Shakti seeking their immediate intervention in the matter.
