JAMMU, June 2: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla today said that Government was committed to develop all the urban peripheral areas of the State with all basic facilities like road connectivity, drinking water, power, education healthcare besides better lanes and drains, adding that in this regard Government has prepared a comprehensive plan to fulfill all the aspirations of the people of these areas.
This was stated by the Minister while addressing a gathering at Joogian Mohalla in Bandhu Rakh after laying foundation of road widening project from Sahib Bandgi Ashram to Shiv Nagar, here today.
Mr. Bhalla informed the gathering that Government has earmarked Rs. 15 lakh for road widening and mecademisation, adding that the project would be completed within 15 days. He said Government is committed to provide better road connectivity to every area of the State so that the people can enjoy their journey without any hindrance.
The Minister directed the concerned higher ups to personally monitor the quality of execution of the work, adding that there should be no compromise on quality. He said that Government is committed to create durable assets in the State under core sectors for this purpose there was no constraint of funds.
Mr. Bhalla said that Government is keen to address public concerns on priority and the development machinery has already geared up for timely redressal of the development related issues of the people across the State. He said for upgrading the living standard of poor lot of the urban pockets, Government has launched number of welfare scheme like IAY and BSUP. He said under the schemes Government has provided financial assistance to state subject beneficiaries for construction of pacca houses.
The Minister called upon the people to continue their wholehearted cooperation to the Government for achieving the developmental goal. He said instructions have been issued to all the officers to reach the people and assess their development needs.
Listing the measures taken by the Government to improve the basic amenities in his home constituency, Mr. Bhalla said Government has spent Rs 250 crore on commissioning of 25 deep drill tube wells including laying of water supply in periphery areas, besides in newly developed colonies. He said the Government has spent Rs. 5 crore for providing relief to the people from uninterrupted power supply by installating 50 MVA transformer at Gladni in Narwal.
The Minister said Government has earmarked Rs. 4.78 crore for construction of 133/11 KVA receiving station at Shastri Nagar, adding that the project would be completed by July this year.
For facilitating the people of Shastri Nagar, Mr. Bhalla said the Government has dedicated Rs. 3.37 crore parking slot on Landoi Choi nallah near cremation ground. He said on the dedication of parking slot, the problem of traffic congestion on Shastri Nagar-Digiana road has been solved.
Earlier, the Minister also visited Roop Nagar in Digiana and kick started construction work of lanes and drains of Gobind Nagar mohalla, for which Government has earmarked Rs. 7 lakh.
Responding to demand of locals, Mr. Bhalla asked the JMC to prepare estimates for left out lanes and drains of the Preet Nagar and Roop Nagar Digiana and submit the same for funding.
