JAMMU, Mar 25: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture, Raman Bhalla has exhorted upon the executing agencies and departments associated with development activities to ensure time- bound completion of ongoing development works for the benefit of the people.
The Minister was addressing a gathering after launching Rs. 9 lakh development works in Sector-9, of Sanjay Nagar, here today.
Mr Bhalla said that the Government was making all out efforts to provide better infrastructure and amenities to the people. Seeking public cooperation, he asked people to keep a watch on the implementation of schemes for better results on the ground.
The Minister said that the Coalition Government was committed to provide all basic amenities to the people of the State at their doorsteps, adding that various development projects have been initiated in the State to facilitate the public.
Mr. Bhalla directed the PHE and PDD officers to replace worn out water supply pipes and wires. He called for laying of new water supply pipes well before the start of up-gradation work of lanes and drains. He said that main focus of the Government was to develop every corner of the state with modern facilities , for which liberal funding has been provided by the Central Government to the State Government.
The Minister said the Government has approved various prestigious projects under Tourism Sector in Jammu region to promote tourism trade, adding that construction work on Tawi artificial lake was in full swing and would be completed within fixed time frame at an estimated cost of Rs. 110 crore. Other major projects like Peer Kho to Bahu Fort Ropeway (Gandola) would also be started soon at a cost of Rs. 47 crore, he added.
Mr. Bhalla informed that Government has released Rs. 95.70 crore for construction of flyover from Bikram Chowk to Convent School including 8-lane road widening from Bikram Chowk to Satwari by ERA.
Responding to the demand of locals, the Minister asked the Jammu Municipal Corporation to prepare estimates for renovation of left out lanes and drains in the area and submit the same for funding. He called upon the people not to put debris in lanes, adding that such practices not only cause inconvenience to the people but also make the area unhygienic.
Listing the measures taken by the Government in improving the drinking water scenario in the City of Temples, the Minister said that numbers of tube-wells with Over Head Tanks have been constructed so far and the work on many others was in full swing under PHE and ERA sectors. He said the work on 6-lane road with road dividers from Satwari to Kunjwani is in full swing, adding that a number of multipurpose halls are being constructed at various places for facilitating the people, he added.
For facilitating the people of Sanjay Nagar and Shastri Nagar, he said Government has earmarked Rs. 4.87 crore for construction of parking slot near Cremation Ground at Shastri Nagar.
