RAJOURI, Mar 5: An impressive Bhairon Jhanki was taken out in Rajouri town here today.
This unique Jhanki in the Northern India is taken out every year in Rajouri town during Holy festival. It will go on for a few days. A youth in the traditional attire of Bhairon Baba leads the Jhanki, while hundreds of people follow him in the entire market. The youth also dance on the drum beats during the Jhanki.
Bhairon procession was started from Sanatan Dharam Sabha here and then after passing through various markets and Mohallas, it concluded at the same venue. It took about five hours to cover the entire town.
It is said that this Jhanki is connected with the `Kala Bukhar’ (sickness) to the people during olden times. The local ruler was told by a holy man (sage/ Sadhu) that if a man in black dress and appearance like `Bairon Baba’ is pleased and his procession is taken out through out the town, then this `Kala Bukhar’ to the people will vanish from his kingdom. It happened during Holi days and since then it became the tradition in this town.
