JAMMU, Aug 3: MLA RS Pura, Dr Gagan Bhagat along with administrative officers’ today visited Nari Niketan and Balashram situated at Ward No 10 of the constituency to take stock of situation there, as due to torrential rains on Monday night, both Nari Niketan and Balashram were submerged in rain water.
The inmates were immediately shifted to Roopnagar Jammu at Working Women Hostel, on directions of MLA, after he found that the furniture, food store, general store and inmates rooms in both the shelter homes were completely damaged.
Dr Bhagat visited every section and corner of Nari Niketan and Balashram and individually interacted with inmates to know the problems, they were facing. Later, he called the Minister for Social Welfare Sajad Lone and demanded immediate renovation and repair of the shelter homes.
The legislator also visited Tehsil Social Welfare Office, Women Development Corporation building and Child Development Project Office and took a brief meeting of officers and discussed important issues, regarding pension and other benefits of old age persons, widows and disabled persons. He directed them to consider the cases of widows and disabled persons on top priority and reduce the pendency of the old age pensions in the constituency as early as possible.
He also visited adjoining Municipal Wards 10 and 11 and interacted with local residents, shopkeepers and discussed some of the old standing issues regarding drainage system and water logging. He directed the administration to speed up the work on water logging and drainage system plan for RS Pura which was sanctioned in recently concluded DDB meeting chaired by Deputy CM, Dr Nirmal Singh.
