REASI, Oct 18: Following a strong protest by the people against alleged partiality adopted in anti-encroachment drive by the district administration, Deputy Commissioner Reasi today ordered an inquiry into the complaints.
Claiming that the anti encroachment drive, which was carried out by the district administration on Saturday, caused death of a woman, residents of Bhaga village in  Reasi district  staged a massive protest.
The protesters staged a dharna on the main road and blocked the vehicular traffic for more than 7 hours.  After putting dead body of the deceased woman on road, they were demanding suspension of Tehsildar Reasi and Xen PWD besides enquiry into the irregularities in conducting this anti-encroachment drive. Local MLA and MoS,   Ajay Nanda also joined the people in protest dharna.
The protesters alleged that partiality was done in conducting anti encroachment drive and some persons who had good relations in administration, were benefited by less demolition or no demolition of their shops or houses.  The protesters also alleged that a young lady  died yesterday as she was in depression after this drive.
The protesters staged  dharna from  8 am onwards and did not allow vehicular movement on Jammu-Reasi road for around eight hours. Because of the road blockage, Government employees, Shiv Khori pilgrms, locals and tourist  suffered badly .
The protesters could be pacified only after  DC Reasi announced to take action against   Xen and Tehsildar Reasi and also ordered constitution of a committee to look into the complaints of people. Headed by ACR Reasi and comprising of ASP and Tehsildar Katra as its members, the committee shall submit its report within 15 days.
The protesters called off  protest around 3.30 pm and thereafter performed last rites of the deceased woman.
