Sir,
The recent actions taken by the Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee to address water pollution in Bhaderwah are a step in the right direction. The imposition of fines and issuance of notices to individuals and organizations responsible for unscientific waste dumping highlights the severity of the issue.
Bhaderwah’s water bodies, such as Puneja Nullah, Neeru Nullah, and Halyan Nullah, are facing significant threats from unsegregated waste dumping, untreated sewage, and poor waste management practices.
To combat this, the formation of a three-member committee and integration of CCTV monitoring are commendable efforts. Additionally, allocating land for a Sewage Treatment Plant at Gatha marks progress toward scientific waste management.
However, delays in fund approvals for critical projects must be addressed to prevent further environmental degradation.
The collective responsibility of Government bodies, local authorities, and citizens is crucial in determining Bhaderwah’s environmental future. Sustained vigilance and public cooperation are essential in ensuring the success of these initiatives.
