RAJOURI, Aug 20: As the talks of the students with Vice Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, DC and SSP Rajouri ended in a deadlock, the students continued their protest on the 12th consecutive day today.
First round of talks of the students with the VC of BGSBU, DC and SSP Rajouri continued early morning and concluded at 3 am. The gate was then opened and the staff made hostage was allowed to move out. However, the meeting remained inconclusive. The students today again boycotted their classes and continued protest through out the day today.
Again at around 4 pm today, the Dy Commissioner Rajouri, Dipti Uppal and SSP Dr Haseeb Mughal arrived and had second round of talks with the students. The talks continued for about three hours but again ended in a dead lock. Then the talks were held in presence for Vice Chancellor and Dean Students Affairs but again remained unsuccessful.
The students are demanding termination/ removal of the Registrar Rashid Choudhary, reconstitution of Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe scholarship scam and other bunglings in University, complete audit of the three major account heads of the Varsity and so on. As these major demands were rejected by the Varsity authorities, the students resolved to continue their protest.
SSP Rajouri, Dr Mughal when contacted said that last evening the district administration in order to facilitate the talks entered the campus and invited students for dialogue as they were not prepared to talk to VC. Mughal said he and the DC continued talks through out the night but students seemed to be influenced from certain quarters. They were not clear on their demands of SIT and removal of Registar. However, by 3 am, they were managed to open the gates and let the staff go. Today, again talks started at 4 pm and continued till 7 pm but the students were now demanding termination of Registrar and formation of new SIT. They are actually not aware of composition of SIT. They were told that this SIT has reached to the conclusion and will complete its talks within one month and if new SIT is framed it may take another three-four months. Some of the students were convinced but others were undecided. They had some other issues which are to be resolved by the University authorities. Moreover, they were told not to go for violent protests as it will not be allowed and law will take its own course. The Administration wants that peaceful atmosphere and academic activities are restored in the university. The students are adamant and seemed to be taking dictates from certain quarters, Dr Mughal maintained.
