BGSBU awards row

Sir,
Refer news item ‘BGSBU awards 16 out of 15 marks in viva to select low scoring candidates’ Mar 25, 2019.
Though the selection list of candidates eligible for admission to PhD Programme in Urdu has been put on hold on the pretext of typographical error by the administration, one thing is clear that favouritism is quite rampant during viva voce. This is not only true for selections in admissions in colleges or universities but also in State’s premiere appointing body J&K Public Service Commission. This appointing body has often courted controversy over selection of candidates for posts in various departments. Main reason has been that Blue eyed boys get priority in selection, while the meritorious candidates are dropped like a hot potato.
To avoid this malpractice, the Central Government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the initial years of his tenure did away with interviews for low grade jobs, but continued with high grade jobs. The best way as has been suggested time and again by various experts that interviews should be conducted under camera watch. But much emphasis has not been laid to it by the management bodies or appointing authorities.
The interview system will continue at the cost of meritorious candidates. Very dismaying quite indeed.
